NEXT SUCH EVENTS is a series of parties, usually a Saturday night from 7pm to midnight, where we share Darts, Ping-Pong and Song (usually with live music!), a potluck feast…and heavy on the dancing! Our Halloween party saw around 100 costumed folk dancing till past 1am. Each is different from the last and the base is a close circle of highly creative friends.
The series title is derived from the clever British phraseology of Patty Charley Zimmerman, a co-host and cohort, who simply talks that way - and the parties usually attract between 50 and 75 people. Many are independent video producers, artists, writers, local independent business people and lots of folks of the British persuasion!
Patty Charley Zimmerman and Steve Wolmer co-host the parties with help from Peter Zimmerman, and Wayne Morgenthaler, owner of Jungle Vibes Gift and Toy Emporium. Patty never ceases bringing folks together for good purposes whether it be saving homeless cats (Pet Pals and Forgotten Felines), getting TV coverage for small local businesses (Cruizin’ Your Town series and The Boots and Patty Show), or lending her support to local issues (through Petaluma Tomorrow and other groups).
NEXT SUCH EVENTS may include sharing henna tattoos, Easter egg decorating, bobbing for apples, traditional and non-traditional ways to play…and since Our Place (a warehouse sometimes referred to as the Bunker or the Cave along the Petaluma River) is open to the street, we’ve had fireworks in the parking lot.
First held December 31, 1999, to herald the new century, our Millenium Party featured a Millenium Time Capsule and Personal Millenium Log to reflect on what matters most to each of us. That night, we stretched huge sheets of white paper along the wall and drew with color and glitter to our heart’s content.
